what is new on this site Notice the little buttons on the lower right of this scrolling display. 07/14/06 Wow, has it been this long? I guess I've been busy. Today I added two articles about the brain. One, The Neuroscience of Leadership came to me via Trudy Canine. The other, If Only Gay Sex Caused Global Warming, describes how our brains are designed in terms of responding to threats. You can find each from the menu at Resources/Articles. I find both fascinating and hope you will too. 11/09/05 It's been a while, a long while, since I have put on my web-site administrator hat and tinkered with things. But at long last, I've added some cool stuff. First, you'll find a compelling, hard-nosed article about the nature of a "real manager" under the menu Resources/Articles/On being a REAL manager. After reading this, I saw how I was "trying" to complete some projects where "trying" meant not doing. Also, I've posted the transcripts of a couple of Charlie Munger's speeches. Munger is the octogenarian partner to Warren Buffet, the nation's second richest person. (Bill Gates, the current #1, calls Buffet his best friend insists Buffet will be #1 again). In one speech, Munger shares what he has learned about "human misjudgment." That's the speech where I got turned on to Robert Cialdini's work on influence and persuasion. In the other speech, Munger was asked to speak about how he and Buffet pick stock investments. As Munger believed one can only do that through wisdom, he spoke mostly about "worldly wisdom." He eventually gets around to their investment strategy. He says it's the same model as the one you'd use if you were making a living by betting on horse races. You can see these throuth the menu sequence of Resources/Speeches/Charlie Munger. 08/14/04 While I was at it with the photo stuff, I added a page of photos I've taken in and around our back yard. This will be hard to find, but to get there, go to the menu About Jim/Meet Jim Earley and scroll all the way to the bottom. Or, you can click here. 08/12/04 At long last, I updated the photos of the grand kids on the "Meet Jim" page. Thus Levi, who's previously only photo was taken a couple hours after he was born, now has a current shot of this active two-year old. 08/05/04 I'm guessing at the date here, but I've added a web log with some of my thoughts and experiences around coaching. You can click here to see it. 07/25/04 I caught up in listing my "Monthly Milestone" e-mails here. To find them, click on Resources/Goal Setting or click here.. 05/30/04 I introduced a new menu system. Although this one might not be as attractive as the previous one, it is much more functional and more easily changed. Some of the menu locations have changed from what they were before, but they should actually be easier to find. The old system only allowed two levels of nesting of sub-menus, which meant there were more menu items at the first level. The new approach allows "infinite" nesting of submenus. 03/15/04 Here's an update you probably don't much care about. I added a "new" photo of me on the "Meet Jim" page. This photo was taken several years ago by the late Thomas Leonard, founder of Coach University and Coachville. (Thank you Matthew Rochte for finding it.) He took it for a book project that never happened. If you're curious, off the menu, click "About Jim," and then "Meet Jim Earley." 03/01/04 I added the text from my March "Monthly Milestone" e-mail. I recommend it as the most compelling reading on my site. It explains my sense of what a milestone is (vs goal) using the lessons from the movie Touching the Void. 02/06/04 Oops. I haven't been updating this for a couple of months. All that's new has been adding the monthly networking and milestone e-mail copy for November, December (no Networking e-mail), January and February. 10/25/03 Another set of book excerpts was added to the "Books" menu. Look for The Promise of Sleep if you want to learn how great managers operate. Also, I posted the October Networking E-Mail. Look for it under the "Newsletters" menu. 10/03/03 Another set of book excerpts was added to the "Books" menu. Look for First, Break all the Rules if you want to learn how great managers operate. 08/27/03 A new book review was added off of the "Books" menu. Look for Leadership and Self-Deception. 08/27/03 I've started to add web page versions of my monthly "Networking" e-mails. Off of the Newsletter menu item, click on "Monthly Networking E-mail." 07/23/03 A new "book notes" was added off of the "Books" menu. Look for three pages of excerpts from the book Now, Discover Your Strengths plus a summary of the 34 strengths. 07/1/03 On the "Meet Jim Earley" page off of the "About Jim" menu, you'll find a new "Inside Look" section that includes information about Jim from a variety of sources including the Gallup StrengthsFinder, Seligman's Signature Strengths assessment and others.
06/11/03 Added a couple of menu items relating to Equine Assisted Coaching. Look under Articles for a link to the St. Paul Pioneer Press's article, and to a page of the photos from the original newsprint spread. 04/21/03 Added a menu item titled "For Coaches Only." I'll use this item to include content that is most likely of special, if not exclusive interest to coaches. I've moved the list of my 15 favorite books as well as the audio pulled from Tim Gallwey's speach to the International Coaches Federation conference in Orlando in 1998 to this section. 04/21/03 Under the "Audio Interviews" menu, I added an interview with career and talent expert Cheryl Leitschuh that we taped in February. 04/18/03 Under the "Audio Interviews" menu, I added an additional 40 minutes of an interview with marketing expert Terrie Wheeler in January. 03/18/03 Under the "Audio Interviews" menu, I added the first 20 minutes of an interview with marketing expert Terrie Wheeler in January. 02/18/03 Under the "books" menu, I added a page listing some of my favorite business (usually management) books. In addition to links allowing you to buy a new or used copy, there are links to reviews, articles and author's home pages. 01/18/03 Realizing that some visitors might want to print out the coaching case studies and testimonials, and that the way they're set up to scroll across the page prevents printing, I created a "printer friendly" version of each. 01/17/03 After discovering some major redundancies in the case studies, they've been rewritten. 01/09/03 Under the "Newsletters" menu item, I gathered the goal setting tips I've been sending out to selected individuals for several months. By the way, if you're interested in getting that monthly e-mail and having me keep track of your monthly goals and accomplishments, let me know. 01/07/03 Instead of starting from the "Meet Jim" page, the site no starts with a "Welcome to the site" page that tries to explain the general nature of the kinds of information and resources provided here. 12/30/02 Added a new "book notes" page with extensive excerpts from the book A General Theory of Love. This fascinating book looks at he psychobiology of love and other emotions. You'll find this under the "Books" menu item. 12/22/02 I moved the Testimonials menu into the "About Jim" section and set it up into a scrolling marquee similar to this. 12/16/02 Thanks for feedback from a friend I learned of problems in downloading the audio files. I check with my gurus at Sprocketwire and learned how to shrink them to 10% of their previous sizes. If you've had problems with audio downloads from my site before, try them again. 12/15/02 I received permission from Thom Hartmann, a leading expert on Attention Deficit Disorder, to post over a half-hour of the audio from one of his videos. It includes his explanation of his metaphor that ADD is actually a skill set, the skill set of a hunter in a culture dominated by the values of farming. It also includes his perspectives on the importance of reframing ADD as a positive and his famous metaphor of the motivation Maslow missed (the need to feel alive). This is MUST listening for entrepreneurs. Look for it under Audio Interviews. 11/26/02 Added my first "book notes" page where I share some excerpts from a book I've read (and enjoyed) This first set of excerpts comes from Martin Seligman's new book Authentic Happiness. You'll find this under the "Books" menu item. 11/25/02 Added interview with Chuck Lindberg and Heather Lintner of Denarius Human Resources. They discuss how companies can eliminate performance review systems. You'll find this under the "Audio Interviews" menu item. 11/24/02 Added an interactive version of the assessment tool from Julia Ross's book Diet Cure. You'll find this under the "Assessments" menu item. 10/29/02 Added this "What's New" feature to make it easier for repeat visitors to the site to see what's changed. Alternatively, this feature makes it easier for my wife to check to see if her hubby has been squandering time indulging in his web-guy hobby. 10/29/02 Added another snippet to the page featuring Tim Gallwey's speech. In this out-take, Tim explains why we don't play to win. We use this with clients to illustrate why people sometimes get bored in their jobs. You'll find it under "Audio Interviews." 10/29/02 Enhanced the formatting of the company descriptions included in the networking section of the site so that line breaks are included making things easier to read. 10/18/02 Thank you Steve Wilbers for your generosity in contributing an article titled Even Busy People Can Improve Their Writing. You'll find it under "Guest Articles." 10/12/02 Added links to a couple of sites offering interesting interactive assessments. You'll find them under "Assessments." 9/23/02 Added excerpts from a fabulous speech Tim Gallwey, author of the "Inner Game" books, gave as the keynote speech at the 1999 International Coach Federation conference. This is must-listen material. You'll find it under "Audio Interviews" on the menu. 9/15/02 Added a link to the great article about local golf guru Dan DeMuth that was published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. You'll find it under "Articles on the Internet." 9/5/02 Added our first "Audio Interview." You'll find 20 minutes of audio from a conversation with mediator Susan Mainzer. You'll find it under "Audio Interviews." End of List |
